I went looking online for free vintage Mother’s Day greeting cards and I couldn’t find that many. I think the problem is that Mother’s Day is a somewhat modern invention, which was probably created by Hallmark Cards and Teleflora to boost their sales. If so, it was a good idea. The web traffic is brisk for Mother’s Day, just as it is for Valentine’s Day – another manufactured holiday. People feel the pressure to conform to society’s dictates that we honor our mothers on one day in May. Some people honor their mothers every day, so it isn’t necessary to make a big deal out of it. Some don’t and there’s no point pretending one day a year on Mother’s Day.
