Joint replacement surgery was not a common occurrence a couple of decades ago. When the then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee underwent knee replacement surgery nearly a decade ago, it started gaining in popularity, particularly in India. However, for several years before that, people from the world over have been visiting India for total knee replacement surgery, primarily because of attractive currency conversion rates and minimal waiting periods. In recent years, this trend has caught on substantially. Moreover, minimally invasive techniques of surgery have made people even more open to going in for knee surgery because of the perceived decrease in pain when it comes to laparoscopic procedures.
