With warmer months up ahead, it is likely your children will be playing outdoors or even attending summer camps.  However, poison ivy is prevalent during all seasons.

Knowing the signs of poison ivy and how to treat it are beneficial for all parents.  Poison ivy irritates the skin and usually causes mild rashes wherever it comes in contact with the body.  It can cause severe itching and discomfort.  Take preventative measures by making sure your children know what poison ivy is and teach them to avoid it!  If there is any poison ivy in your yard, it is a good recommendation to have it removed.

If a poison ivy strikes in your house, it is very treatable.  Benadryl and cortisone creams are effective in soothing the discomfort of the rashes.  Cold compresses and even prescription medicines can aid in the healing process.  Poison ivy typically takes two to three weeks to heal up.
