If you are thinking about taking the itemized IRS deductions, then you would not have to worry or think about the standard deduction at all.

But, if you think that going the standard deduction route may be good for you then you should know how much tax deduction you will get when you file a joint return, a single return and so on.

Currently, a joint filer will get $10,900 standard deduction. But if you file as a single or file a separate return from your spouse, you get half of that each. A head of household gets $8000 in standard deduction.
